OLIVE BRANCH COMMUNITY

NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2003

Dear friends,

When returning from a food run in June, we were involved in a serious accident that totaled our vehicle. Thankfully, we escaped with minor injuries but need to replace the vehicle. Please consider us when you retire yours.

Marco Del Fuego, a longtime activist in the Latino community from Central America has moved into our community to assist in creating a Latino family shelter. He has been active in resisting corporate globalization, which contributes to environmental and social degradation in third world countries.  We have found people willing to operate the shelter but have yet to locate a building. If you have any ideas please let us know. Meanwhile, the number of homeless individuals in our new neighborhood (Petworth) is obviously increasing.

Aside from resisting the war in Iraq, we have diversified our activities. Tom Gomez an activist from the 80’s squat in Tompkins Square in New York City has been assisting in the reorganization of WPFW, a local Pacifica radio station.  Members of our community are being considered for management.  Suncere who for many years has actively fought for prison reform has opened and is managing the activist Café Mawonaj in our former, distressed Northwest neighborhood while providing the children there with a free breakfast.

Last year, we received our greatest support from you, our contributors. Thank you!

It really inspires us and helps us to continue the struggle.

We are still trying to find a larger and less expensive place

nearer to our soup kitchen.

Please, again give as much as you can!

For the Community,

Harold Moss
