Dear friends,
This year as we struggle to serve the homeless and decrease it by providing educational and social options and opportunities for inner city youths; we are forced to respond to destructive local and federal policies.
In the Spring, as controversy raged concerning the “Contract with America," We were given the opportunity to organize the social justice component of Earth Day XXV.
We invited dozens of national and local organizations to pitch tents and educate the thousands of participants on how their constituents would be affected. On the last day, the earth fair stage was dominated with colorful music and messages by children from our two community houses.
In August, with the help of many volunteers, the youth camp for the neighborhood concluded an exhausting but exciting summer for ABRAHAM HOUSE ( see rear for details).
As the camp came to a close, one of the families suddenly became homeless. We provide hospitality since there is no longer emergency shelter for families.
It is alarming that as the number of individuals at the soup kitchen increases so does the number of homeless families.
We are learning first hand the tensions of overcrowding, as our floor or the couches become the option for our friends and neighbors.
With increased hospitality, the cost of our utilities approaches that of our rent and we are forced to rely on outside jobs and borrow to write this fund raising letter ! PLASE HELP !
On Saturday December 30, we are planning a holiday celebration with homeless families and would like for you to participate. We will contact you for help, but feel free to call for details.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS !
For the Community,
Harold Moss
